Confusingly there are two holiday resorts in Corfu called Agios Georgios. One is in the north of Corfu and the other in the south. To futher complicate matters AGIOS GEORGIOS (South Corfu) is also known as St George.
St George is an ideal base for those who like walking and cycling. A short walk through the olive groves takes you to the quaint 10th century village of Argirades where life goes on as it has been for years. The distance from Corfu Town and airport is 20 miles south. Since Agios Georgios combines both – quiet holidays with busy nightlife in walking distance it became very famous and popular resort. Agios Georgios has the most beautiful beaches on the island (6 miles long), easy-on-the-feet sand and are safely shallow for children.
AGIOS GEORGIOS beach is well organized and considered to be one of the best in Corfu – awarded with blue flag. Sand dunes, isolated coves and a lake add interest to the resort. One of the assassination scenes of The James Bond film “For your eyes only” was filmed there. Paragliding, snorkelling, wind-surfing and jet skiing are among the water sports on offer here. Boat trips are available from the beach. Bus service connects the village of Agios Georgios to the capital of Corfu twice a day and Kavos with its famous nightlife is about 7 miles away. A few kilometers northern to the village there is the Korrision Lake, a famous biotope, with a very important fauna and flora, protected by the Greek State, the lake is linked with the sea via a narrow and shallow strip of water. It is also worth seeing the small islets of Lagoudia, opposite to AGIOS GEORGIOS close to the Cape Consta.
